Where I’ve Been & Where I’m At
When I was a freshly deconverted apostate postmodernist with a sarcastic philosophical axe to grind, I decided to name my blog “Involuted Speculations.” I figured that since there was no overarching narrative to explain all of life, then my thoughts on any part of it were nothing more than speculations that just so happened to be “complex, intricate, or involved.”1 I wasn’t really looking to do much more than kill time by exploring some philosophical and litereary ideas I had been playing with during my early years in college.
God, however, used my interest in philosophy to bring me to my senses. I eventually abandoned the postmodern ideas I had been committed to for about a decade or so, and repented of my sin and believed the Gospel. The story is a longer and more involved one you can read about here, if you want, but can be summarized briefly as follows —
I had a false conversion at around 16-17 years old, then turned away from the faith shortly thereafter and got obsessed with philosophy.
I came to see the utter futility of philosophy as an atheist, then rejected academics altogether and got obsessed with sex, drugs, and rock and roll.
I was struck by the inexplicable profundity of death and fatherhood, as an atheist.
God convicted me of my sin, granted me faith to believe the Gospel, and saved me.
This changed the content of my blog somewhat. But it didn’t change my blog’s name.
My blog had the name I had given it while an atheist, but the content was now Christian. In all honesty, I didn’t expect much from blogging. But in God’s providence my writing did bring in a small audience for some time, and this made it somewhat harder for me to change the name of the blog. I suddenly had people linking to it, recommending my articles to others, and I didn’t want to disadvantage anyone by messing up the URLs. So the name stuck . . . for years.
I shortened the name to InvoSpec.Org, and started blogging on a different platform. But while the name was shortened, my site became more complex (having multiple pages dedicated to promoting my extra-blogging activities). I thought to myself —
If I’m going to continue to produce content that will specifically deal with philosophy, theology, and culture from a Reformed Christian apologetic position, then I need a site specifically focused on those things.
So I decided to keep InvoSpec.Org as my personal site, but begin seriously writing exclusively on philosophical, theological, and cultural matters here on Substack.
Logia: A Quick Break Down
So other than having a more precise, and much shorter, name, how will this blog be different than my older ones? Well, for starters, Logia will be exclusively focused on the abovementioned subjects. Secondly, it will be consistently maintained. I will be posting four times a month. Three of these posts will be your average length blog, while the fourth will be longer, more in depth, and riddled with footnotes. Thirdly, and lastly, unlike my other blogs, Logia will be fully accessible only to paid subscribers. Starting next week, the first article of every month will be free for every reader, but the other three will only be accessible to paid subscribers.
In regards to the free articles, since my goal is to edify the body of Christ with all of what I write there will be no skimping on quality. But if you’re looking for more content, and more in depth scholarly content, the paid subscription is the way to go.
Until next week,
Soli Deo Gloria
